With the NBA 2K21 release still months away, and we're ready to move into the new season, now is the time to predict the players' rating. Below are our predictions for the top five players in NBA 2K21.
Giannis Antetokounmpo
He may only be 25 years old, but Giannis Antetokounmpo is already well on his way to becoming an all-time great. He was last year's league MVP and has been a four-time NBA All-Star before turning 25.
The reigning NBA MVP has spent all of his careers to date with the Bucks and has quickly become a fan favorite.
This Moments of the Week card came in week six of the NBA after Giannis dropped 50 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists in the 122-118 win over the Utah Jazz.
While he has plenty of resumes left to build, he's without a doubt deserving of the top spot in NBA 2K21.
There are virtually no holes in Antetokounmpo's game across defense, passing, and scoring. With this, he's made a convincing case to be the very best player in NBA 2K21, and a repeat NBA MVP.
Lebron James
Lebron James has remained a focal point of 2K's flagship title for the last 12 years. 2K7 was the first iteration where LeBron was named the best player marking the start of a legendary streak The King has retained for over a decade.
As a three-time NBA champion, three-time Finals MVP, 16-time NBA All-Star, and four-time league MVP, Lebron James has cemented his legacy and then some. 12 years and only one King, LeBron has consistently been discussed as the greatest basketball player of all time.
The real LeBron James, now 35 years old, is now on his 17th season in the league and doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon. LeBron notched 25.7 points, 7.9 rebounds, and a league-leading 10.6 dimes per game in 60 appearances.
But with NBA 2K21, we'll only be looking at the 2019-2020 NBA season and Lebron James' production as an LA Laker.
With all of Lebron James' work in the 2019-2020 NBA season, a year where he's stepped up his passing game even further while slowing down his scoring, we'd have to say James will maintain his NBA 2K20 rating of 97 overall.
Kawhi Leonard
After Kawhi Leonard's heroic and memorable playoff run that led the Toronto Raptors to deny the Golden State Warriors of their three-peat, many thought Leonard would overtake James as the best player in 2K.
Kawhi has been in everyone's top five current NBA player's list for years now and took his game to another level this past postseason. From his buzzer-beater game seven wins against the 76ers to his shut down defense against the league MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, the NBA Finals MVP had more than enough on his resume to warrant the number one spot.
Leonard is a two-time NBA Champion, two-time Finals MVP, and four-time NBA All-Star.
Based on his continued excellence demonstrated this year, we expect NBA 2K21 to bump Kawhi Leonard up to 97 overall due to his flexible talents across defense, scoring, and passing.
Luka Doncic
Luka Doncic has had a remarkable season. Coming in at just 20-years-old, with just one season under his belt, he is breaking all the statistical records as he leads the Mavericks to one of the West's best records.
In the game, when Luka entered the season, he was rated at just 87 overall. A month into the season, his latest bump has him all the way up to 96. It marks one of the greatest ratings raises in 2k history.
Indeed, Luka has cemented himself as not only an All-Star but one of the best players in the league. Averaging 30 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 9.2 assists on 47% shooting, the Slovenian guard has transformed the Mavericks from a middle-of-the-pack team to bonafide Championship contender. Luka's ballclub owns a 23-14 record, sits sixth in the West, and is within the grasp of attaining homecourt advantage in the first round of the NBA Playoffs (seeds two through six are separated by only 3 games).
He may not have the individual accolades of others just yet, but he managed to run one of the most efficient offenses in the league this year with his production across passing, scoring, and even defense.
NBA 2K21 will take notice, and we feel as a result they'll bump Luka Doncic up considerably to take the spot as a fourth highest rated player in the game.
James Harden
James Harden is a points machine. He takes far more shots than any other player in the NBA, but when you've got a career average of 24.8 points per game, it's clear to see why.
Once considered a third fiddle to Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, Harden has proven that he is a superstar in his own right and is determined to bring a championship to Houston. Harden is a former league MVP, eight-time NBA All-Star, and five-time All-NBA First Team member. With these accolades and his recent offensive production, it's not hard to see how he fits in this discussion.
But while Harden remains as explosive and talented on the offensive side of the ball, he still struggles heavily on defense. This is not something that's improved this year, and because of it, we expect Harden's overall to drop from his NBA 2K20 rating of 97.
A 96 overall rating is more fitting for this knockout shooter who struggles on the defensive side.
