Who Will Feature on the Cover of NBA 2K21?

NBA 2k21 will be released in a few months. Although we don't know much about the update of the game, as always, there is always a battle to be named the coveted cover star for the hit basketball sim. So, who will be on the cover of NBA 2K21? Here are our predictions: NBA 2K21 Cover Star: Could it be Kobe Bryant?

Kobe Bryant's glittering b-ball career encompassed five NBA championships, two NBA-finals MVP awards, one overall MVP awards, and adulation across the nation - indeed, the entire world. In 1,346 games with the Lakers, Bryant averaged 25.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.7 assists. With his posthumous election to the Basketball Hall of Fame made official earlier this month. Little wonder, then, that his tragic passing immediately had fans clamoring to make him as the cover athlete for the next version of the game. Even Hall-of-Famer and Bryant's former teammate Shaquille O'Neal said he felt that Kobe should have his own cover/edition for NBA 2K21. What's going on: O'Neal — who teamed with Bryant on the Los Angeles Lakers, winning three NBA titles — told that he would like to see Kobe Bryant on the cover of the annual NBA video game. O'Neal said: "Yeah. There is going to be Kobe (edition). You don't even have to worry about that. Definitely going to be Kobe. And I don't know what they're going to do with the money, but they're going to do the right thing. Kobe's family does the right thing." Of course, O'Neal doesn't work for 2K so we have to take this with a grain of salt.

Kobe Bryant was the only cover athlete in the United States on NBA 2K10, and he also graced the cover of the Legend's Edition of NBA 2K17 since it was his final year in the league. A third cover has to be forthcoming, and it makes sense for it to come this summer. If the cover star is not to be Bryant, then the leading choices are surely Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, and Vince Carter. Giannis Antetokounmpo Speaking of "monsters," if you look up the very definition you'll find Giannis Antetokounmpo. But even being one of the biggest proponents for centers in NBA 2K20, Antetokounmpo's 96 overall is just a bit too crazy -- despite him winning this year's MVP. Giannis is very best that the NBA currently has to offer. He has spent all of his careers to date with the Bucks and has quickly become a fan favorite. He may only be 25 years old, but Giannis Antetokounmpo is already well on his way to becoming an all-time great. He is the reigning MVP and hot favorite to make it back-to-back awards this year, his marketability continues to grow due to his ever-increasing popularity. Also, Giannis is eligible to sign a super-max contract in the summer and if he does – and he is expected too – then it makes sense to see the Freak back on the cover in 2K21. Kevin Durant The Nets picked up Durant from the Warriors on a four-year contract, worth an estimated $164 million, somewhat of a gamble given Durant's recent injury troubles. The chances of Durant taking to the court this campaign are little to zero, with the Nets hoping that the 2014 MVP can recapture his old form from next season onwards. Last year in Golden State, Durant posted averages of 26.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 5.9 assists on a ridiculously efficient 52.1 percent shooting from the field. Whilst KD and the Warriors may have failed with their quest for an elusive 'three-peat' last year, the Brooklyn Net's man could make it a third NBA 2K cover appearance in 2K21, having featured on the covers of both 2K15 and 2K17. The 31-year-old made the switch from California to NYC when he swapped the Warriors for the Nets in the offseason and whilst he wouldn't be a new signing per se, KD will be raring to go next season, as it is unlikely he will have played for the Nets due to his ongoing injury problems. Kawhi Leonard

Last year's NBA Finals MVP made the decision to switch Canada for America in the offseason as he joined the Los Angeles Clippers, who are still in search of their first NBA crown. Kawhi has established himself as a consistent force to be reckoned with each night on the court, his ability to finish in the paint, make jumpers open or contested has risen him to become an NBA sensation. Oh, and did we mention he has 11.5-inch hands? All of this combined has made him one of the highest defensive rated players each year. Kawhi is the reigning NBA Finals MVP, whilst the season so far may have not lived up to the hype that surrounded them coming into it, we all know what Kawhi is capable of when the playoffs arrive, and, with Paul George and co alongside him, he could well be set for a second consecutive ring. Should that happen, and should Kawhi be the man to guide them there, then he's sure to be hot property for both 2K Sports and EA Sports when they come looking for a cover star. Vince Carter Checking in as the all-time top dunker in NBA 2K20 is none other than Vince Carter, with an impeccable dunk rating of 99. Vinsanity has announced that he will be retiring at the end of the 2019/20 campaign, has become the first player in history to play in 22 different NBA seasons. Whilst he may not be putting in the big minutes that he did in his prime, Carter has racked up 49 appearances for the Hawks this season, scoring 258 points to date. One of the greatest dunkers of all-time, the eight-time NBA All-Star has been an absolute joy to watch over the last two decades and it only seems right that 2K honor his retirement with a cover appearance.
